Rivian is Setting its Sights on Adventure

Rivian is creating a small change in the now massive world of Electric Vehicles, or EV’s for short. Like most companies, and especially ones in this particular industry, Rivian is looking to differentiate itself in such a crowded space. And what could that small niche be? The adventure seekers.

It’s not some sort of urban legend that consumers will soon be switching to an electric vehicle lifestyle. It’s already happening now. And although the switch is still somewhat on the horizon, the dollar signs, are right in our fucking face. So, companies like Rivian, Nio, Tesla, and now Ford and GMC are looking to capture those big bucks. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, the fight for the EV market is HUGE and although Tesla might seem like a clear winner, the war is far from over.

Rivian is going into the fight, in a way I’m sure most of the consumers did not see. They are looking to capture the mountain bikers, the day hikers, the surfers, and everything else that I’m sure you’d find in the X-games. And Rivian is trying to capture those radical folks in a completely different way, with charging stations. Now there are plenty of charging stations around the US, and companies like ChargePoint are making it their mission to cover the great United States with charging stations wherever you can find Slurpee’s. I mean space is already covered in trash, so why not America? It’s seems like the only way. But Rivian doesn’t care about the path most traveled, no, they want to find the trailheads, the hidden beaches and everywhere in-between that you’d find a Jeep or Suburu owner. Rivian is already creating Electric Trucks and Sports Utility vehicles, so adding a layer to the ecosystem with properly placed charging bays is just going to give the company an advantage altogether. The path less traveled is risky, but with a well built out infrastructure, Rivian could capture this entire market while the competitors fight for the scraps on paved roads.

Like any industry, finding a niche, and building a strategy to capture that slice of the market is imperative with a bunch of competitors. Rivian is fighting in the EV industry which is fucking covered with rivals and other companies, however Rivian might have found a nice slice to go after. This outdoors consumer industry for EV’s is more than likely small, but could give Rivian a nice revenue stream that will flow well into the Rivian Profit River. Jesus Christ, one more analogy like that and I’ll have to kick my own ass. Anyway, this is very cool example of how the EV market is continuing to build out strategies to get their hands on a different type of consumer or any consumer at all. Who would’ve thought the strategy to get in would be charging stations? Not my ass, that’s why I’m writing about it.

The war for EV’s is far from over. Like every industry the companies will have to find different strategies to get a way forward, Rivian is showing us that right now.

Anyway, that’s my take on it. Until next time- GS
